Eastern Massachusetts ARES Activates Emergency Communications Nets for Coastal Storm Defense

The Eastern Massachusetts Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) activated emergency tactical communications nets across coastal counties in response to a major simulated Atlantic storm surge and severe weather outbreak.

Volunteer ARES emergency coordinators from Cape Ann to Cape Cod established battery-powered 2-meter VHF repeater links and 75-meter HF voice nets on 3.895 MHz. Operators transmitted formal National Traffic System (NTS) health-and-welfare radiograms and ICS-213 emergency message forms directly to county Emergency Management Agency (EMA) command centers.
